Volcano Island walkthrough
Five local fish. One Fish Bucket. Keep the whole whale.
Give the scientist all five Scientific Lure catches to get the Fish Bucket. Use it to catch Bowhead Whale, keep the whole body, carry it up the wooden planks and throw it into the crater. Defeat Mutated Bowhead Whale, then return its Whale Fin for the military boat key and ending.

Do it in this order

Arrive
Use the Volcano Radar coordinates
Return the Albatross Head on Rocks Island, then follow the new Radar marker to Island 5. Head straight for the hazmat scientist before selling any local catch.

Quest
Bring the scientist all five local fish
Use Scientific Lure until you have Anglerfish, Blobfish, Oarfish, Superdwarf Fish and Stonefish. Hand one of each to the scientist to receive the Fish Bucket.

Stock food and your best ranged weapon
The next two fights run back to back only if you choose to continue. Heal, reload and clear inventory space now. Goblin Shark uses Scientific Boss Lure but is optional for the ending.

Whale
Cast the Fish Bucket for Bowhead Whale
Use the scientist's Fish Bucket to summon Bowhead Whale. Defeat it, then keep the entire body. Do not sell, cook or carve it—the whole whale is the final trigger.

Carry
Take the whale up the wooden planks
Carry the intact Bowhead Whale along the plank route above the crater. Drop it into the volcano opening; placing it elsewhere will not start the final encounter.

Final boss
Defeat Mutated Bowhead Whale
Move constantly, use the crater rim for spacing and commit ranged damage during safe openings. Pick up the Whale Fin after the fight.

Finish
Return the Whale Fin to the scientist
Carry the Whale Fin back to the hazmat scientist. He gives you the military boat key; use the boat to trigger the ending and credits.

Know which route moves the story
Goblin Shark fills the collection. The two-whale chain finishes the story: keep the first body and return the final Fin.

Common mistakes
The scientist will not give me the Fish Bucket+
Complete the set: Anglerfish, Blobfish, Oarfish, Superdwarf Fish and Stonefish. They all come from the Scientific Lure pool.
Scientific Boss Lure did not summon Bowhead Whale+
That lure is for the optional Goblin Shark. Bowhead Whale only takes the Fish Bucket earned from the scientist's five-fish quest.
I sold or cut up Bowhead Whale+
Catch another one with another Fish Bucket. The final encounter requires the intact whale body, not meat or cash.
Dropping the whale did nothing+
Carry it up the wooden planks and throw it directly into the volcano crater. The body must land in the opening.
I beat the final boss but did not get the ending+
Pick up the Whale Fin, return it to the hazmat scientist, then use the military boat unlocked by his key.
